#3d: On team alignment.

Only when a team is aligned is it more than the sum of its parts. When you provide a team with multiple — and competing — aims, you incentivise the creation of sub-teams within. The benefits of an aligned team cannot come from a fractured team.

Aim instead to provide a singular purpose. A team with a single, clearly defined purpose can optimise for that purpose. They spend less time fighting against alignment and fighting with prioritisation, and more time growing together and achieving.
