Reference #462: Organizational Culture and Leadership

Leadership is the management of culture. The role of a leader with respect to culture varies with the stage of growth of an organisation.

Initially, leaders create new groups. They thereby create new cultures.

Once an organisation has established itself, the role of the leader shifts to maintaining and consolidating the existing culture.

Since a culture sits within other cultures and environments that are dynamics and changing, certain aspects of that culture will eventually become dysfunctional. It falls to leaders to identify these problems and to manage the direction of the evolution of culture. This is "culture change".
