Many organisational issues — especially safety issues in high-hazard industries and healthcare — are caused by poor cross-cultural communication. As such, it is the role of an organisational leader to enable members of the organisation to develop more personal relationships (Level 2) and so communicate more openly. A leader must know when and how to create cultural islands.
