Potential is the most important predictor of success for all levels of management. In a previous era of talent-spotting, businesses hired for competence (which itself followed an era of hiring for IQ). However, businesses are now constantly evolving, so competencies do not always stay relevant. Potential involves the ability to learn new skills as they become required.
