Success and failure are not absolutes. Goodness — in art, in expertise — is a spectrum. The world changes in increments. There are few major leaps in any endeavour; most progress comes incrementally.

This is true for the micro as well as the macro. Our personal competencies improve with each practice, slowly, steadily, over time.

Cultures evolve, and strength or weaken values and norms, imperceptibly; yet despite the imperceptibility of these changes, the end result is a culture change that is eminently noticeable, pervasive, and influential.
