#1a2: Good writing comes from the right words.

Good writing comes from the right words. Don't write more than you need to — ensure each word serves a relevant purpose. The same is true for sentences and for paragraphs.

Don't write less than you need to; be precise, definite, and concrete in your choice of words and phrasing. Prefer the specific to the general; this accuracy allows the reader to place themselves within the scene.

Don't compensate for poor word choices. Poorly chosen nouns and verbs can't be rescued by adjectives and adverbs. It's better to start fresh with the right words than to throw good sentences after bad.
