#14a2: Viewing technology as a driver for behaviour change is hazardous.

Habit, not a tool or technology, is what's important for change. Yet we often consider technology adoption a goal in itself.

Technology is only valuable for behaviour change to the extent it facilitates the creation and maintenance of a habit. That a tool provides any benefit is not sufficient reason to adopt it; you must consider its cost.

While a computer enables faster word processing than can be achieved by hand, it also provides the opportunity for much distraction. For some (like me), this cost may outweigh the benefit. And the existence of a new technology may make actual change more difficult — you prioritise a seemingly easier but ultimately ineffective solution over implementing a harder solution that works.
