Employee engagement drives business performance. Yet there is no single value of employee engagement within a company; engagement varies across individuals, teams, and functions. An employee's experience is affected more by their manager, team, and daily work than by macrostructures within an organisation.

Here, the micro — an employee's local environment and the choices of their manager — drives the macro — business performance such as customer satisfaction and revenue.
