Reference #335: Thinking in Systems

Delays are strong drivers of system behaviour. Changing the length of a delay may have a large impact on the system. However, the resulting behaviour change is often counterintuitive — a change in delay may have the opposite effect than intended, for example strengthening oscillations rather than dampening them.
